De wat naïeve zeekapitein James McKay komt in een vete om waterrechten terecht tussen de rancherfamilies Terrill en Hannassey, wanneer hij op de ranch gaat logeren van zijn geliefde Patricia Terrill, die hij in het Oosten heeft leren kennen. In plaats van in deze vete partij te kiezen, probeert James een paard te temmen op de 'Terrill Ranch', tot grote teleurstelling van de verwende Patricia en de jaloerse voorman Steve Leech.
