Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) begint de kerstdagen zoals gewoonlijk met krenterige minachting naar zijn trouwe hulp en snauwend naar zijn vrolijke neef. Maar de geesten van zijn Kerst- verleden,- heden en -toekomst nemen hem mee op een opzienbarende reis waarbij de oude Scrooge, met veel tegenzin, de waarheid onder ogen moet zien. Hierdoor realiseert hij zich dat hij zijn hart moet openen voordat het te laat is, om alle ongelukkige jaren weer goed te kunnen maken
